About CES

Competitive Energy Services, LLC (CES) is an established energy services firm that advises the commercial, industrial, institutional and non-profit sectors in procuring electricity, natural gas, propane, residual oil, heating oil, biofuels and green power supply.  In addition to providing procurement options, CES offers a broad variety of strategic energy management services such as budgeting and forecasting, risk assessment and management, and carbon footprint reduction.

About the Internship

CES is looking for a general business intern to join our team this summer. This internship will allow you to gain experience in a variety of roles within our company. Here you will be able to learn more about the energy industry, what we do, and the various sectors of the business. There will be plenty of challenging and interesting projects for an intern to be involved with.

This is a paid internship opportunity based out of our Portland location and will run for a minimum commitment from May 2018 until August 2018 (12 weeks). The internship may be extended based on performance and company workload and must be mutually agreed upon by both parties.  You will report to our Controller Lynn Gallagher during the duration of your internship.

General Duties

Initial responsibilities could include the following:

  • Working with our finance and accounting department on various projects such as invoicing, financial statements, accounts payable, etc.
  • Organizing and reconciling supplier and client payments
  • Scanning and organizing documents for a paperless file system
  • Working with our Marketing department on our annual seminar and other projects
  • Supporting our Analytics department as needed
  • Working with our Human Resource department on compliance projects
  • Other projects that become available during the internship

Required Minimum Skills

  • A student working towards a four-year degree in a business-related field
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel. QuickBooks experience is preferred.
  • Be able to work independently and complete tasks assigned
  • Positive, self-motivated attitude
  • Adaptable to a flexible, fast-paced work environment
