Market Summary for the Week of November 4 - November 8, 2013

by Michelle Tham, Director of Analytics

Synopsis of Last Week's Energy Markets

Crude oil remained flat last week; the near term months ended the week with no change while the outer months saw a small uptick. WTI crude for the prompt month has fallen to four-month lows following the uncertainty in late October regarding federal spending and the national debt ceiling. Furthermore, crude stocks and domestic production continue to gain. Natural gas briefly dipped last Monday but then rallied for four days on forecasts for a blistering cold front settling into the eastern US in mid-November; this forecast is still driving prices up as of Monday morning.
