Synopsis of Last Week's Energy Markets

NYMEX floor trading was closed on Monday for Memorial Day, and crude oil fell three out of the four trading days last week, with the largest drop occurring on Wednesday. Total US crude oil stocks continued its upward trend and domestic production also increased. Natural gas prices rose at the beginning of the week on speculation that above average temperatures will stoke cooling demand and limit stockpiling, but prices fell at the end of the week due to a larger than expected inventory gain.
