Synopsis of Last Week's Energy Markets

WTI rose for the first week in six on positive data for US equities, second quarter GDP, and consumer confidence. The potential for war between Russia and Ukraine added to the bullish sentiment and boosted WTI and Brent. Natural gas prices climbed four our of five days last week as late-summer heat was projected to increase cooling demand and slow inventory gains. The October contract rose to $4.09 per MMBtu on Friday--the highest daily settlement since July 16--capping the first monthly gain since April.
