Market Summary for the Week of April 7 - 11, 2014

by Michelle Tham, Director of Analytics

Synopsis of Last Week's Energy Markets

WTI saw a substantial rise of 2.6% last week. This was due largely to a jump in gasoline demand and the corresponding decline in stocks; on the other hand, both the total US crude stocks and storage levels at Cushing, Oklahoma, rose during the previous week. Natural gas also climbed last week, as colder than normal spring forecasts have been predicted to slow the replenishing of stockpiles, which fell to 822 billion cubic feet in the week ended March 28 before last week’s reported injection of 4 Bcf.
