ABOUT CES

Competitive Energy Services, LLC (CES) is an established energy services firm that advises the commercial, industrial, institutional and non-profit sectors in procuring electricity, natural gas, liquid fuels, and renewable products. CES offers a broad variety of strategic energy management and consulting services such as budgeting and forecasting, risk assessment and management, cogeneration and renewable energy feasibility studies, fuel conversion analyses, utility tariff negotiations, demand response analyses, carbon inventories and reduction strategies.

After an initial training period, spent assisting other team members on projects, CES Energy Analysts are assigned to work as part of a team serving specific clients. Analysts are responsible for work product arising from his or her assigned clients, which may include: 

•           Modeling of energy consumption and utility rate tariffs on behalf of clients.
•           Forecasting energy budgets and preparing various use projections.
•           Assistance in monitoring of energy markets, preparation of weekly client newsletter.
•           Performing project impact analysis including fuel switching or renewable energy systems.
•           Energy policy and regulatory research and impact analysis.
•           Preparation of materials for client meetings.
•           Acting as a point of contact for clients, energy suppliers and project developers.
•           Greenhouse gas accounting and sustainability planning.

REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS
•           Bachelor’s degree, preferably in engineering, math, computer science, economics, environmental studies, or other technical undergraduate programs.
•           Energy industry experience is a plus, but not required.
•           Excellent spreadsheet, data analysis and graphical presentation skills.
•           Strong writing and communication skills.
•           Programming and database management is a plus.
•           Creative and analytical thinker with attention to detail.
•           Ability to prioritize and manage workload with flexibility.

About the Internship
CES is looking for a Technical Business Analyst intern to join our team this summer. This internship will allow you to gain experience in a variety of roles within our company. Here you will be able to learn more about the energy industry, what we do, and the various sectors of the business. There will be plenty of challenging and interesting projects for an intern to be involved with.
This is a paid internship opportunity based out of our Portland location. You will report to our Controller and Managing Director of Information Technology during the duration of your internship.
General Duties
Initial responsibilities could include the following for the Controller:
• Working with our finance and accounting department on various projects such as invoicing, financial statements, accounts payable, etc.
• Organizing and reconciling supplier and client payments
• Scanning and organizing documents for a paperless file system
• Working with our Human Resource department on compliance projects
• Other projects that become available during the internship
Initial responsibilities could include the following for the IT department:
• Review base client data in our ERP and CRM systems and ensure the information is correct and up to date.
• Assist with data clean up
• Assist with the development of our CRM system
• Other projects that become available during the internship
